FETF Grant FAQ: Calf Jackets & the DEFRA FETF228A Code

FETF Grant FAQ: Calf Jackets & the DEFRA FETF228A Code

What is FETF228A?
FETF228A is the official item code for "calf coat" under Defra's Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) — the UK government scheme part-funding farm equipment and animal welfare kit.

Which AniMac products qualify?
Our Super Calf Jacket | Waterproof and Super Calf Jacket | Lightweight Waterproof are both listed under FETF228A.

What does a calf coat need to qualify for FETF228A?
Per gov.uk's official specification, a qualifying calf coat must:

  • Be made from breathable material with a fabric interior and water-repellent outer layer
  • Be fully adjustable with durable clips or buckles for securing
  • Be available in a range of sizes appropriate for the animal

Our Super Calf Jacket meets all three — breathable waterproof outer, anti-bacterial lining, adjustable plastic-clip straps, and eight sizes from XSmall to 4XL.

How much can I claim back?
Based on the published FETF228A grant rate, farmers can typically claim back around 35–40% of the item cost. Your exact rate depends on your own Grant Funding Agreement (GFA), so it's worth double-checking that.

How do I get a valid invoice for my claim?
After you order, your confirmation email includes a link to download your invoice. If your order includes a calf jacket, it will automatically show the FETF228A code — that's the one to submit with your claim, no need to contact us.

Something's not right with my invoice — what do I do?
Email us at hello@animac-wear.com and we'll get you a corrected copy.

Claim deadline
FETF 2026 claims must be submitted to the Rural Payments Agency by 20 January 2027. Scheme details can change year to year, so it's worth double-checking gov.uk for the current round.
